A Thought about Abortion.

Hello,
This is for my pro-life people; some of my best friends are pro-life people. I like to offer a piece of understanding, and offer a place where pro-life people can work together with pro-choice people to reduce the number of abortions. Such a place does exist.

First of all, to my fellow pro-life people, you are being duped by pro-life Republicans. Do I think that pro-life politicians are sincere in their beliefs of life? Yes, I certainly do. However, pro-life Republicans are still politicians. And these Republicans are using your beliefs as a political card to use as a cheap, quick, convenient way to garner political support.

Just look at the recent history: 12 years of a majority Republican congress, with 8 years of a Republican Presidential administration that picked 2 conservative judges to the Supreme Court that tilts to the right. With all 3 branches of government, what did the conservative Republicans do with their accumulated power?

Impeach President Clinton? Check.

Give tax cuts to the rich? Check.

Do nothing about the degradation of our environment? Check.

Invade a country with no WMD’s? Check.

Torture people? Check.

Curb civil liberties with the Patriot Act, invading people's privacy? Check.

Make abortion illegal? They were not able to do that.

Hmmm, why is that? Since impeaching a President is a very difficult thing to do; only 2 Presidents have been impeached in the whole US history. How come they didn’t use their power to make abortion illegal?

If they did, then they couldn’t use the issue as a political card anymore. So they use the abortion issue as a political tool to get everything else they want on their checklist. And it has worked for them.

I understand & respect your pro-life beliefs. But the aggressive protesting & harassing women in front of abortion clinics is destructive, not constructive. And bombing medical abortion clinics & shooting doctors is just hypocritical.

Many of these women have been abandoned by men who shirked their responsibilities, leaving these women to make a very difficult choice all alone. And it is not an easy choice, but a very difficult one to make. A choice so difficult to make, that no government can make that decision for her, only that individual woman can make it for herself.

But making abortion illegal will not stop abortions. Then women with no choice will be forced to return to the back-alleys with wire hangers; the same alleys where many women have died.

So being pro-choice is being pro-life.

So instead of supporting pro-life Republicans; how about working to reduce the number of abortions? Because the Republicans will never make abortion illegal because it is too valuable of a political card for them to ever give up. They had their chance & did everything on their checklist except that.

You can work with pro-choice people to reduce the number of abortions. Why would pro-choice people have an incentive to reduce the number of abortions? Because they understand how difficult that choice is for a woman in that position, so pro-choice people have an incentive to reduce difficulty in women’s lives.

As long you have poverty, you will always have abortions. Legal or illegal.

So, pro-life & pro-choice people can work together to reduce the number of abortions by eliminating poverty.

Eliminating poverty; easy thing to say, a hard thing to accomplish.
But things of value have always involved hard work.

So, to my fellow pro-life people, stop letting your beliefs to be used by Republicans for their own agenda. And use that passion & energy of your beliefs toward eliminating poverty, & therefore reducing abortions. This is a more effective & constructive method that properly respects your beliefs & goals.
