As an Indian-American I understand the anger & frustration of @ronnychieng & @Trevornoah comments about Indians.
But these guys are comedians.
That joke from Trevor of the Prime minister changing his accent was from the perspective of how white Britsh racists think & mocking them for thinking that.
You can make the same joke with Obama.
Actually the New Yorker magazine cover did the same joke. Depicting Obama as
African Muslim. It was in perspective of white Racists seeing Obama that way.
That cover caused controversy as well. And the New Yorker said it was satire.
My counterargument would be:
Don’t tell me to
pick a Lane! I can be Indian & Asian & American & Desi. If you can
support the idea that there are more than 2 genders. We can be multi-racial
backed up by facts.
Black people can be African-American & a
person of color. And White people can be Caucasian-American & a person of
whiteness. They can pick many lanes.
But he does have point. If he showed up in a
Bollywood movie. Indians would react “What the hell he is doing there?”
We need to stop the East Asian vs South Asian
hate! We both came from the same continent. It’s just perspective. Buddha was
Indian but there are images of him as East Asian.
I can laugh because it was a funny joke & I can disagree. I am capable of having 2 different ideas in my head.
At least he
started a dialogue.
Asians Unite!!!
